WikiMapia Engine Alpha is a new WikiMapia editing and application structure first announced in August 2010. The engine was developed by the WikiMapia Labs subdivision. Currently, the engine is still in development and is open for testing. Keep in mind that Wikimapia Engine Alpha is NOT the regular WikiMapia. Functionality is very limited at the present time and it is strongly recommended you not add places through the engine.
More Maps - The new Alpha engine includes Yahoo! Maps in addition to the current Google Maps.
Localization Files - In the regular WikiMapia, the interface had longer loading periods and sudden page reloads due to the framework structure. In the new enginge, the interface uses localization files to create a faster program.
Separate Modules - WikiMapia Engine Alpha's module structure is split, making it easier to develop, change, etc.
WikiMapia Engine Alpha was built to run on the best quality with these browsers:
- Google Chrome
- Firefox 3+
- Safari 3+
- Internet Explorer 6+
WikiMapia Engine Alpha runs a forum topic in the WikiMapia Forum for feedback and additional details.
